About us

NPO Mirai no Mori creates life-changing outdoor programs for abused, neglected, and orphaned Japanese children.

Mirai no Mori camps and outdoor programs are the first step in changing a cycle

of dysfunction and despair to a cycle of self-actualization and inspiration.

STAGE 1  Healing and Growing in the Outdoors

Summer Camp and Snow Camp
Entering our 4th year in 2014

Four- or five-day camps allow enough time to gain trust and build meaningful relationships.

Natural settings provide psychological benefits and a place for healthy play and discovery.

Outdoor adventure lets children overcome fears in a supportive environment, developing self confidence,self-esteem, and trust.

STAGE 2  Connecting to nature, to society, and to one another

Give Back to Nature programs
Beginning Spring 2014

Through fun hands-on projects like reforestation and beach cleaning, kids learn more about nature while protecting it.

When they have a chance to “give back,” under-valued children feel needed and realize they have a meaningful role to play in the world.

Leader in Training program
Beginning Summer 2014

High school students will join camp as Leaders in Training, helping younger children have a safe and unforgettable camp experience. The program will strengthen LITs’ work skills, English ability, and personal character – all aimed at making a successful transition to adult life.

Returning LITs may become paid camp staff, and qualify for the Global Leader program.

STAGE 3  Nurturing Leaders with a Global Mindset

Global Leader program
Target date: Spring 2017

Leader in Training graduates will be placed with trusted employment partners in countries participating in the working holiday visa program. Global Leaders will spend a year overseas learning English and gaining skills on the job, greatly increasing their options.

Completing the circle, Global Leaders will return to inspire and mentor current Mirai no Mori participants.
