Summer Camp
Summer Camp 2017: Session 3 Report
Location: Miyagi Prefecture
Participants: 21 Campers, 4 LITs, 6 Care workers
Date: August 14, 2017 – August 18, 2017
Program:
We finally reached the final session of Summer Camp 2017! This time we welcomed 21 campers, 4 Leaders in Training, and 6 care workers
This will be the first overnight experience for some of the children who have participated in Mirai no Mori’s weekend Back to Nature programs since last fall!
Despite the rain, all the campers enjoyed themselves. Some campers made bracelets for their friends, others enjoyed solving puzzles or played UNO. Everyone seemed to be having fun during their free time!
After the final MOlympics of the summer, we did some outdoor cooking! Campers divided into teams: Chicken, Vegetable, Apple, and Fire. Everyone was assigned a job and the chicken and apple crisps came out looking perfectly baked. Everyone kept asking for seconds!
On Day 4, the Leaders in Training took on the challenge of scaling a waterfall! The LITs also helped the campers by shouting words of encouragement and by holding the tired campers’ hands and walking with them. The LITs also did a good job of keeping everyone involved in the games! They really helped our Stream Hike leader Jeff with their great team work all the way through to the final day!
Lots of camp magic was born this summer. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors and partners from the bottom of our hearts.
Over 3 sessions (July 31 – August 18) we were able to welcome a total of 84 campers, 7 high school students, 21 care home staff, and 19 Mirai no Mori staff. As a team we created memories that will last a lifetime and really help our campers in the future. Looking ahead, we will continue our weekend programs and we ask for your continued support.
Thank you very much to everyone who has supported this year’s Summer Camp magic!
